Gonna make this short and sweet lol I don't take a lot of pics during the building process but here it goes I bought a 74 16' polar craft boat and trailor for 400 bucks brought it home fixed the leaks and painted it to match my pontoon because every guy needs a matching pair lol then i needed a trolling motor so I cruised craigslist for one for awhile and finally found a minn kota rip tide copilot 24v 70lb thrust for a price of 10 dollars brought it home hooked it up and it fired right off score so then i fished out of it for awhile like that but was tired of being limited on where i could go so i bought a couple of outboards only to get tired of working on them and finally found one at a local marina for 30 bucks its a gamefisher 15hp yet another score I brought it home and adjusted to points and viola fired right off so now here are some pics not done yet but better than when i started still need to install a hatch in the front and maybe a rear casting deck i absolutely love it tell me what you guys think i know it's not perfect and they are some flaws but after all if I wanted a perfect boat I would have spent a lot more than roughly 600 bucks this one serves the purpose and it's a lot of fun

So Santa brought me a depth finder and I decided to add a hatch in the front casting deck I got some questions on the transducer my boat sits really shallow in the water will it be alright to just mount it to the very bottom of the transom or should I extend it a little bit lower or should I build an arm that hangs off the side like for a kayak

Nice little project boat! And you must be the master of finding good deals!

As far as the transducer goes, I would just mount it to the transom. As long as it is fully submersed in water its all good. It doesn't need to be far under the water.

Thanks man there for a little bit I just happened to be in the right place at the right time lol gonna try and mount it this week and take her out on Monday to see how it works but I appreciate the advise

No prob, been a boat mechanic 12 years, ive installed many a transducer!

In an old jon boat I used to have I had a cheap little hummingbird and I actually just let the ducer hang out inside the bottom of the boat unmounted. As long as the bottom of the transducer was wet where it touched the aluminum hull it would read perfectly, never had a problem. Not that I recommend doing this, its definitely best to have it submerged so that it doesn't get damaged.

Well I just installed it I'll have pics of it later my boat actually sits a little deeper in the water than I thought I think it will be fine thanks for your help buddy

This is the best solution for mounting a transducer https://www.sternsaver.com. I have it on my Build for underwater lights and fish finder. There are other and cheaper versions you can google that work great.
