Obviously you can see, i am new at this, it needs a bit of TLC, but it was free to me. It has a small leak in the drain that I am going to need to fix, but the patch that you can see does not leak (surprisingly)

My first question is, I don't think that the 1x2's are going to be strong enough for the bow casting deck, so I will probably change it to 2x4's , but I am having problems trying to figure out frame it out there without screwing into anything but the seat. Is it possible?

I want to add a bow mount trolling motor on top of that deck, so after i plywood/ and carpet that , i plan to build ontop of that again.

Do you think the other areas look ok? I have alot of planning to go before i finish it, but i plan to have a couple storage compartments in the middle, and then have the 3rd section (from the front) as low as possible. Am I going to have stability issues with a "3 tired deck"?

Are there any templates or anything for transom mounts? As you can see mine is rotten, if it wasn't so bad i don't think it would be hard to use that as a template, but i'd like to have a motor at some point.

So what do you think? Is any of this do-able? Any input is welcome. I love the stuff you all have done and thats what drove me to do this

The transom look like a rectangle, Can you just get the measurements and cut out a piece of wood to the same dimensions?

As far as i can tell, they just hold extra flotation foam. They don't appear to do anything other than that. I was thinking.. .Cup holder to be inserted

I was looking at snowboardinmans originally, but i couldn't quite figure out how he got his to mount there. I assume it is just resting there? Would i run into an issue of "rubbing" after awhile?

The transom is funny, it like curves in on the sides. I was thinking maybe either just cutting a piece of plywood in a rectangle and reusing the holes making the transom bigger, or removing what is there and trying to guess where the center would be and just flipping it and making a template and cutting that out.. I suppose either might work.

Is there a negative to having "to big of a transom"?

another question i have is.. I have no idea what type or speed of outboard i can get.. Any ideas? i am guessing probably like 5 - 10 horse. Do i need the long or short shaft?

I have a 14' alumacraft and it takes a short shaft motor. Just check the height of your transom. On mine the plate says it is rated for a 25hp, however I am going to put either and 8HP or a 5HP on it as I will use it at a few places that are 10hp and under.

As for the self tapping screws.. Can i use any like sheet metal ones? or do i need to make sure they are stainless steel? My father works in a sheet metal shop and said he could get me some for free.

Thus far this project has cost me nothing Free boat, and Free 2x4s and screws.

For now i plan on just buying a trolling motor, hopefully 50# trust. Do you think this will be strong enough to pull the boat along?

Should I just get one battery, or two? I am pretty sure that i will just wire it right to the battery, which i plan to put in the back of the boat, or do you think i should make it easier on myself (less wiring) and put it in the front?

Also plan on getting one of those cooler aerator kits, and putting a cooler under one of the hatches. Any advice?

I hope to have everything done by the end of June, since i will be on a lake for two weeks straight on vacation!!!!
