I picked up this boat, trailer, and motor for $300 after finding this site and looking at all the different things I could do I'm really excited to get this project under way

A buddy just got a similar set up after going fishing with me. I'd say use whatever keeps the water out so you can fish 'til you make friends with a welder.

i don't mean to douse your enthusiasm, but i'd say don't spend too much on your first project. for solo fishing, the length is ok, but it's kinda narrow and it has a flat bottom, so i bet you'd be wanting a bigger rig sooner or later, unless you'd like to stay in protected waters.

just patch it up and use it first. you can paint it to improve the look. after a few outings, that's the time to decide whether you'll commit to spending serious time, money, and effort on this one or postpone the project until you can get a better boat to work on.

I don't plan on putting to much money into it. I don't fish on any big waters just mainly small electric only. I finally will get out on the water this weekend to test it out to see how stable it is before I decide on what I'm doing to it.

Patch the holes, bang out the dents, clean 'er up good and add some things over time to make 'er yours. Maybe you have it a year, maybe ten. It'll be worth more to you and more toward your next project, but best of all you can get out on it and go fishing.
