Hello gang; :)
Been away for awhile & I trust most of you are enjoying the somewhat warm weather.
Anyhow, I got my 1957 Evinrude 18 hp up & running. But when I tank tested it & then re-checked the lower unit oil afterwards, milky colored #-o . So I went and purchased the kit from the local marine dealer. What I want to know is, being a novice somewhat, I've never ever attempted this procedure. How much of a b*tch is it to do (even with or without a manual-CD rom one)? Because, if it's too much of a pain, I'll may just sell her & let the next guy deal with it (told in advance of the LU, natch!).
Thanks

Well... it's a bit of a chore. Be sure you have a manual to give you some directions and pics, also be sure you have the proper tools you'll need. I would definetly replace the water pump impellor while you have it apart. Try to do it all at one time so your memory is fresh on the sequence you disassemble. My first time at redoing a lower unit took me around 5 or 6 hrs. Since then i've did many and can do most in half that time now. If it's a good motor it's well worth it, having someone do it will be expensive. If you are mechanically inclined and take your time, you can do it!

Just curious about this because my dad's boat used to have a 57 Evinrude 18 hp, but where would you EVER find a manual for one of those motors? Are they still available???? That would be great if they were but I always figured that if you had one of those, you were on your own or you'd have to take it to an OLD motor guy to get worked on.

Mike
