About mid-day on Saturday, I noticed the furnace was running but wasn't putting out any heat. I tried a few things I knew but no luck the burners would not light.
I called the HVAC company I have used in the past. The technician went over everything and it was decided it was time to replace the 24-year-old furnace.
On Sunday the HVAC company sent out a guy the figure out which furnace we needed. Today the new furnace was installed it took 3 guys 6 hours.
Normally a furnace going out in single digit and subzero temperatures would be an issue but luckily when my girlfriend had the house built, she had in floor hydronic heating installed.
A few years ago, we needed a new water heater which normally is not a big deal, but the water heater did both domestic hot water and had a separate water inlet and outlet for the floor heat.
The last time water heater went out it was $5,000 installed this time it was $8,000. We said no thank you and I separated the 2 systems, and I installed a water heater for the domestic hot water.
I capped of the floor heat and didn't think about it until last year when the girlfriend decided she wanted the hydronic floor heat working. First, I needed to flush, drain and pressure test the Pex tubing in the floor. Then we got a Hydro-smart hydronic system and 40-gallon water heater from Menards. It took a few days to get the gas, electric, exhaust installed and then to fill the system.
It's nice to have a warm concrete floor in the basement but with the furnace out we turned up thermostat to the floor heat and it was able to keep the house warm and comfy until the new furnace was installed and online.
