Hello all, I am new to the site. I found it by searching online for best ways to fix up and modify a jon boat. I live in Texas but bought a boat from a friend in Missouri. We fished the rivers and lakes up there in it, but lost two of our fishing buddies way to young. My friend said he had lost the desire to fish and use the boat, so I went back up there and got it for the sentimental value of it. It is a great boat and I have used it down here for a couple of years. But now I want to fix it up good, and honor it by making it into the best boat it can be. I am not sure of how I want to modify it, but I am sure I can find inspiration from all of the projects out here. If you have any good ideas, I'd be glad to hear them. The boat is a 1969 18' richline lake jon.

Thanks, I think it will make a great boat too. It is still great for fishing, but I want to make it into a really NICE boat. The truck is a 54 GMC. First model to have four speed automatic tranny.

Welcome aboard surenuff. Great looking rig, with what sounds like a lot of personal history. Sorry to hear of your loss with your fishing buddies. I think it's awesome you got the boat and are lookiing to fix it up. Sounds like a great tribute.

The more you're on here, the more you will be asked to update your profile with your location so you don't have to answer each time your asked. So when you get a chance, please do so.

Make sure to check out all of the mods here: https://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=3156 That should provide some inspiration for your build and will probably give insight into some common considerations when doing a mod on an aluminum rig.

Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Well it has been a long time since I first posted on here that I wanted to fic up the boat. I have fished the heck out of the boat over the last few years, and have not doen muc too it I am sad to say. But If I had spare time I would rather fish than work on the boat. As long as there is fish in the water, I may never get started on this project.

Well, it is settled. I have made arrangements to get my son's boat registered and tagged.(I bought him a 16' aluminum Sun Ray modified V a couple years ago) This way I will have something for us to fish off while we work on my boat. I am ready to get started. This site makes me eager because of all the great modifications people have done on here. The only draw back to this site, is that there are so many great ideas and different options people have done, that is is hard to decide which ideas to copy. I can't do them all, but I want them all. This boat has been a real fun one over the last couple of years, and we have caught a lot of fish. Now it is time to get started. Any help or advice as we go would be appreciated. I will start posting pics as soon as we get started.

Well, get going, lol.your ideas will come as you start to work on it.I'de start by getting it off the trailer and redoing the trailer first.

The trailer will get stipped down for all the parts I can salvage, and then scrapped.. I have welded so many cracks and fixed it so many times, it is time for me to find a good used one, or build another one.
