well i am looking into buying my first boat and all this info is great and all but i havent found any on how deep the boat needs to be and all i was looking at this one so please let me know if it would work. https://seattle.craigslist.org/est/boa/853865695.html . i was also wondering of i could remove the back bench ? or would that mess things up ? im thinking about doing something like this - https://www.myjonboat.com/aboutboat.htm. thanks !

Welcome! The boat you're looking at doesn't appear very deep.....but you've given no info about what sort of waters you intend to use it on, motor size, how many you'll fish with in the boat.....which are all determining factors on if it "would work"....lol, work for what?

Don't think I'd remove the rear seat, most of those jons aren't build from very heavy material, and being the rear seat, helps remove some of torque twist caused by the motor. Removing it could cause some leaky rivets down the road. Leav the rear one & pull the middle one if you want a more open floorplan.

Thanks for joining!

That jon boat can have many things done to it. Anything is possible. I don't really care for the Hydrilla gorilla and I will tell you why. I personally feel that the front seat is too far forward. It look nice in the picture, but If you were given the opportunity to sit on it and fish for a day, you would see your feet would be dangling off the front, never mind the fact if you put a trolling motor (foot controlled) it will quickly become the first thing you hate about your boat. If you try to stand, the seat front will get in your way and make it difficult to move. I personally would deck on top of the front bech forward and the rear seat to the back. Put a nice level low floor in the center and be done.

The room you get up front doing that will be night and day difference, I can promise you that. Real Estate is a prime on jon boats. :D

Take a little time and just go through some of these mods to get even more ideas.

I agree with Jim.The ribs only go across the floor. The bench seats are structural members. If you remove the seats the boat will turn into a pretzel. If the ribs ran up the sides,I would say pull the benches.I also agree with Jim about the front deck.

You need to make sure the owner can provide paper work so you can get a title. Most states require a boat to be titled and registered. The motor also has to be titled and registered.Check your local DNR website and DMV website.

Check https://www.craigslist.org/about/sites for your area. I've seen some great buys on there and wish I'd know about this before I bought what I did.

well i dont know anything about the boat havent seen it yet just that pic on the posting havent measured the depth or width. there will be on ly 2 people fishing mabye a third but not likely. the waters are usually calm. the biggest outboard would be a 5hp. and i was thinking about removeing the benches and putting aluminum angle for suport.
