I apologize in advance if this is a topic that has already been covered extensively, this is my first post so please be kind.

I currently run a minn kota 36lb thrust trolling motor on my 1973 12' starcraft jon boat. I'm looking for some more power on the river. right now it will move up stream, however very slowly. I've been searching for a used 55lb thrust transom mount for a decent price with no luck. I have found a 46lber, my question is how much difference will there be between 36, 46, and 55? is buying a 46lb worth the investment or should I hold out for a 55 being that I already have a 36 that will suffice for now?

guess it would depend on current and wind which will vary every trip to the water. I would go with a 55 if you can afford it as if you need it you got it, but if you ain't got it, can't use it :LOL2:

I have an 04 model MG 43# if you're close to E TN.

When you get a chance, update your profile with what part of the world you are from and maybe one of the members can help you find a motor.

Personally, I'd hold out for the 55#. A used minkotta goes for about $150 by me.
