Finished a complete rebuild of the ignition system in my 56 Johnson 10 horse yesterday and got it into a test tank this morning. It starts now but will only run 2-3 seconds at a time. In have a carb rebuild to do next, but my question is about something that occurred during the 8-10 total seconds that it ran. After running it, I noticed that there was now a small amount of what looks like the oil that comes out of a car engine after 5000 miles. Sort of grungy and burned looking. Nothing like any of the new lubricants I've put in. Is it possible that this is just old grunge washing out or do I have a seal problem somewhere?

Welcome to the world of old 2 cycles... nothing to worry about.... the lubrication oil that's in the exhaust collects and drips out ..... you'll leave a rainbow trail wherever you go...

It can get really scary looking...handfuls of grey foamy sludge..... but perfectly normal...

outta see how much oil builds up in a 100 gal horse tank when test running a 150 2 stroke. Shocking is an understatement, and in about a minute's run time. That's why 4 strokes have almost taken over.
