The other day my fishing buddy and I took the boat out to a local lake and I got skunked! He on the other hand caught two nice largemouth on medium sized minnows that he bought at the tackle shop at the lake right before we went out. Here I am with my Shimano baitcasters, flipping the wood with 4" finesse worms throwing everything that I brought at them, and here he is with a minnow on a bobber floating behind the boat tearing them up! lol Live bait wins again :fishing2:

It is real tough to beat the real thing - however, it is also nice when the live bait guys get skunked and have to toss those minnows they just purchased.

One way to beat live bait is to fish your lure in places live bait guys cannot - heavy cover and overhanging trees are perfect for the artificial stuff

yeah i still had a great time on the water. hell anytime spent out there is great. it was just funny that all he was doing was drifting the bait in the back of the boat a long distance and i threw everything i had at them with no results, and we were in some prime area too, submerged trees and laydowns as far as the eye could see.......

oh well next time i may just have to pick up the ole rod with the bobber on it and float one myself!

Alot of times around here you can throw every lure, jig, soft plastics in your box and not have a fish look at it but as soon as you throw a sucker or a shiner out there bang fish on. Then theres days using live bait you can even steal a bite. Fish are funky and as soon as you think you have them figured out they throw you a knuckle ball and have you scratching you head again. All I can say is being at the right place with the right bait is all we can pray for!

Another clue he might have been giving you was the location of the fish. If you were banging the bank, and he was catching them behind the boat, the fish might have been hanging deeper and needed a nice carolina rig crawling in front of em.
