Yet another move closer to Ahab!!!
Forgot how much I loved catching these guys!!! Caught this one swimming one of my watermelon medley finesse worm. I might even exclusively target these slime darts while in NJ. Jim, can I change my name for a month to PickerelAddict LOL

Its a shallow lake which i use to swim in as a kid. Where I was fishing was probably about 6-7 feet deep. As for the pickerel spawn I have no clue, ill probably research it and let you know tho.

Do you eat them??? How do they taste??? or, are they just a rough throw back??

I use to eat them but dont remember much what they tasted like, I know i liked them tho, now i just throw them back on account of its too much like work to clean them!

They look like they have a "Y" bone like a northern?? Hard to clean them for a good fillet?? Theyalso look a little like a gar or other rough fish???

Just curious, cause a lot of the eastern members seem to catch a lot of them??? Catn't say I've ever seen a pickeral around here??

They have lots of bones in them. They are a great fight and fun to catch except when they swallow your roostertail or it ends up stuck in its gills. That happened to my friend this weekend at Parvin. It was not fun trying to get the hook out. :x

Way to go Mr. BassAddict, oops, Mr. PickeralAddict for a month, we'll get ya out to get some Bass and my specialty, the skunk.

Congrats, I haven't caught a pick this year. I have been skunked almost every trip this year. Although I did catch a bluegill and a tiny bass tonight. It is great to have you back in the north country.....even though it is NJ

We gotta set a Del smallie trip while you are here

We gota be tied, The way things are going I could be fishen in a freshly stocked lake, throw in a stick of dynomite and the only thing that would happen is the nearest tree would somehow make its way upon my body.

Nice fish BA .
There are quite a few video's on cleaning them on Youtube and they taste pretty good . I like to fight them more then killing them . I think of them as natures way of keeping fish from getting stunted (unless the stunted fish is Pickerel but then again they'd just eat each other).
