Recoil starter question.

I recently purchased a 1956 Johnson 10 hp motor for use with my upcoming tin boat restoration. Motor mod number is OD 17 B.
It is in good mechanical condition, with the exception of a missing recoil starter. I've scoured the internet for a good used assembly, and there are quite a few available, but they are all for 5, 7.5, 15 or larger motors. No 10's with the exceptiono of a chance new one that I can't afford. Would a starter off of a 5-15 hp motor be of comparable vintage be compatible with this 10 horse?

I’d go with the 15 recoil. I have zero experience with engines below 1970 but I usually find that engines within 10 hp from the same manufactures share a majority of parts.

if you visually compare the 10 hp Johnson from Canada in the above links and the evinrude 15hp models you can pretty easily see that they are identical... I'd nab that one for 30 bucks...

Thanks, Shaugh. The the $30 starter appears to match the 20hp starter and the motor bolt holes perfectly. Just what the doctor ordered and the price is right too. I owe guys a beer!
