Middle storage.JPGJust started my boat yesterday. I paid 250 for the boat so I think I am starting off with a good price. I spent last summer fishing in under all normal circumstances to ensure I have the most practical build. I have a couple of questions. As far as water protection, I was thinking about varnish. Will this work? Here are the pics I have so far. Mostly a copy cat from other boats on here with a few changes. I put a larger storage area to one side. I'm hoping this will counter balance when I'm in the boat by myself. Will the added weight make the boat more stable as it sits deeper in the water. I would like to add a front deck, but I'm going to wait until I float it this way to check stability. I'm not currently planing on a permanent livewell, but rather a cooler. I have room to add the live well but will wait to see if I want to add it. I plan on adding the battery to the front for a direct connection to my trolling motor. My major goals were to add storage to the boat to prevent the little ones from tripping on stuff. Planning on adding vertical rod holders on the aft part of the large storage with a power control panel on the small storage. The floor is modular to allow for easy removal, but I will be filling it with expandable foam. That way if I decide to add a live well, I can change the stringers to allow for pipes. Please feel free to critique away. You can only help me make it better. I have plenty of pics, so just let me know what you want to see?

Sounds like a good plan. As far as the sealer goes... Spar Urethane seems to be a popular choice.

Well, I just picked up a 15hp Johnson for $200. I'm hoping it will push the boat on a plane. What do you think

Ok, I'm still working on the floor. What is the best place to put the 6 gallon tank. I was thinking in front with the battery. Anyone have insight for me? thanks

One of the nice things about fuel tank and battery is that they can function from anywhere in the boat and be used to balance the boat for optimum performance. A lot depends on the weight and location of storage, weight of the driver, etc. Generally I like the battery close to the trolling motor. Generally I like the fuel tank centered along the keel or to the opposite side of the driver...again to balance the load. And I prefer the two be in different compartments. You may find that after you get the rig on the water you will want to move one or the other to optimize time-to-plane or top speed.
