reverse shifting a DC motor

Got a deal on a Minn Kota Endura transom mount today but the seller twisted the shifter from forward to reverse without pausing which made me cringe. I know doing that a lot of will ruin AC motors but what about DC motors. It never occurred to me before.

If there were a lot of mass on the motor, like say a flywheel it might be an issue, but those props weigh almost nothing so I dont think its any big deal.
