Have a question on what size shaft just want to make sure I got this right before I get a new motor. Measured from top of transom straight down to the top of a level laid flat on bottom of boat 15 inches was the measurement. So if I'm correct I want to get a motor with a 15 inch shaft or should it be a little longer talking about a prop motor also.

are all short shaft the same length or are they different from manufacturer to manufacturer. I'm looking at an 8 hp Yamaha four stroke says short shaft but no actual shaft length

They will be slightly different. Just make sure when mounting your motor that the bottom of your cavitation plate is in line with the bottom of your transom. In doing this, sometimes it means your mounting clamp bracket might not rest on the top of your transom. Why? Because transoms vary in length and short shaft motors typically handle transoms I believe up to 17" or so. Your transom being 15" there might be a gap between the top of your transom and the top of your mounting clamp bracket due to having to mount the motor higher on the transom. Then again being only 8 HP this might not be an issue if your cavitation plate is a little lower than your transom so your mounting clamp bracket can rest on your transom.

Ok thanks for your guys help really appreciated the length on the motor is 16 guy just emailed me back so I think I can get it to work fine for my boat again thanks for help
