Should trolling motors have any play?

I recently purchased a Mercury thruster plus. In the down position it has a little bit of play in it, meaning it moves a little. Is this normal?

im not familiar with that motor is it a foot controlled motor
if so yo may need to adjust the tension on the cable it should turn smoothly but not drift ?

I have adjusted cable tension, that works fine. The play is between shaft and mount.

Yes it does move some when it turns. I had one on my bass tracker v 16 when I bought it and in the down positions it tends to wobble on the mount.
