This is a true story. After waiting in the San Diego airport for a flight back to Atlanta last year a girls' soccer team, all dressed in the customary shorts, knee-high socks, and numbered shirts, boarded the plane and were seated toward the rear behind me. The team appeared to be middle school age and were accompanied by several chaperones, presumably parents.

The flight was uneventful until somewhere over the midwest, where we began to get some turbulence. The turbulence escalated and after awhile it was rocking and rolling with thunder and nearby lightning. I travel a lot in my job and spend a lot of time on planes, but this storm was beginning to scare even me. The pilot notified the cabin that he was going to decend to a lower altitude to get out of the storm, and just before he began the decent a VERY loud clap of thunder and VERY close lightning strike appeared off the left wing.

The cabin, which was unusually quiet during the storm, was suddenly punctuated by a very loud shout of "OH, S..T!!!" from the area of the girls' soccer team. After several seconds of absolute silence, I heard a small and definitely juvenile voice say, "Sorry, Mom." The whole cabin just broke up in laughter.
