I hit a rock this weekend with my prop. Shortly after that I lost power to the prop. Basically, the motor revs but the boat doesn't move. It will move at slower trolling speeds, but the motor just winds out at WOT. I think it's a spun prop. How do I confirm that this is the case? How do I fix it?

that sounds like a spun hub to me..
what size motor do you have?
my yamaha did the same thing
would work at idle speed but give it gas nothing

Had it happen to me most shops can send it off to be re hubed. Mine was 100 to get fixd

Take the prop off and make sure its got the rubber bushing between the prop and spine. Some like force props are all metal and tend to sheer easyer

Prop hubs are basically a big piece of rubber pressed into the prop itself then they use a glue that bonds the rubber and metal together

It's an 18hp. is this something I can fix myself, or do I need to take it in?

Mark the prop and the hub with a line (you can use a sharpie or scratch it) and then run the boat engine (in the water) if the lines do not match up = spun prop.

It is supposed to do that and it is easy to put on a new hub - just take off the prop - add the new rubber hub and put the prop back on

Just spoke to my mechanic. He will charge $100 to fix the spun hub and replace the prop with a new one.

What engine is it (make) - I have done hubs on both Johnsons and Mercs and they are both really easy.

The hub is not usually expensive (less then 20.00) and you will need a new cotter pin (3.00?) The entire job will take you less then 15 minutes

I suggest that even if you have the mechanic do it you try and watch at least. You spin the prop while you are out and it is good to know how to fix it.

PS - save the old hub as a back up - you can shim it with duct tape, etc. as a temporary fix if you get stuck on the water

If you do have a press on hub, most shops will press the hub into your propeller when you purchase the hub
