Thanks for all the great information here.

New jon boat owner - bare bones Fisher 1436 w/ 8hp Honda. I always fish by myself so the boat is just the right size. The motor is perfect. The problems is I've tried adjusting the tilt in all positions but the boat just won't plane out.

About ready to sell the boat and go back to fishing from the bank untill I found this site. After searching through the posts here (thanks again) I believe it's fixable.

I think I'll start with a hyrdofoil and this winter start building a forward deck with seat and storage area for things like a TM battery, etc. to help add some weight up front.

:WELCOME: I think you'll find shifting some weight to the front will help.

Your engine is plenty strong enoug to run on plane.Weight distribution is the key.It may take a little while to get there tho.You could upgrade to a 15HP but that may be to big for your fishing holes.Keep us updated.Pics of your set up may help shed some light on why you can't get on plane. Is the back of the hull straight across the bottom? Some boats develop a hook from lack of support under the transom. Here's what happens to cause hull hook. The weight of the motor pulling down on the transom causes the rear of the hull to sag.If the trailer doesn't firmly support the transom, this sag becomes permanent, and the hull develops a hook. The signs of a hook are hard to plane and a bow that wants to dig in at speed.Aluminum hulls are easy to get this because the metal is soft. This is just an extreme possibility, but if your trailer bunks fall short of the transom,it may be likely.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've ordered a hydrofoil but in the mean time experminted with moving some weight forward. Big difference.

I plan on building something permanent this winter but till then I'll probably just throw a couple of sand bags up front and keep on fishing.

Thanks again.
