I HAVE A 40 TRUST MINNKOTA AN I AM HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE REVERSE IN THE HIGH POSITION IT WONT RESPOND WITH THE POWER THAT IT SUPPOSE TO. I DONT KNOW IF ITS THE SWITCH OR SOMETHING IN THE MASS OF THE MOTOR. HELP!!!!!!!!!

I'm assuming that you are using it in saltwater??? On my older trolling motor, one of the contacts on the foot controler would corrode and do the same thing. Is it a foot control or hand control?

YES IS A HARD CONTROLL WITH TELESCOPING HANDLED AND IS USE IN SALTWATER INSHORE. I CHECK ALL THE CONECTORS IN THE SWICHT AND EVERYTHING LOOK OK.

I have a similar trolling motor MK 40lb tiller handle. Ran into this problem myself. Checked all electrical in the head of the TM like yours everything checked out fine. Checked battery for full charge..good too. Every other speed worked good in forward, but having slight problems in reverse. Took cover off of motor-not were the handle is but down on the blade. Noticed a little rust/water in motor so I took brake cleaner (aerosol can) sprayed motor until clean and worked fine after that.

How does the prop blade look?Is there damage? It would probably be a good idea to check out the motor itself.Check the brushes and make sure they're OK and not bind up in reverse. Also grease the bearings/bushings while you have it apart.I use thick white lithium grease.

I had problems with mine sticking in any gear. Prop would not spin without a little nudge. I removed the prop and two screws and pulled out the core. I found rusted water in the housing. I rinsed with fresh water and gentle sanded the contacts. I also found one of the tabs on the end of the coil bent and rubbing against one of the cooper wires. I realigned the tab and the motor has worked fine ever since then with no problems.

Some trolling motors don't have seals. They depend on proper torquing of the case bolts/screws.My Minn Kota has the case halves machined to a taper so they wedge in and seal. Also on my TM,the shaft from the head to the motor is sealed and the prop shaft has 2 double lip seals.Mine hasn't leaked but some leak like mad and cause problems from the first day.
