I'm in need of an anchor light for a small 1440 jon boat I'm working on. My 1648 has one of the nice flexible 48" led ones that THMarine sells and my original plan was to buy a second base for the 1440 and just use the one light between the two boats. Then I saw that the base alone is almost $50 and the 48" light is too long to store in my 1440 platform. The 1440 currently has a basic 2 prong base that works fine so I started looking for led anchor lights on the web and prices are $40 at a minimum. So my question relates to possibly repurposing an old bow nav light into an anchor light. It's on a 12" post so I was thinking about cutting it down a bit and finding a piece of pvc with an ID that would snugly fit over the nav light pole and add in a set screw. I'm thinking that would be easy enough along with the wiring, so what I'm wondering is if anyone has any advice on creating and attaching a globe to the top and what led bulb I could use? I was hoping I could possibly swing this for $10-15.
Disclaimer: I know this won't be CG approved light. This 1440 is only used on local small lakes and creeks, most of which have hp restrictions. This boat isn't too seaworthy so I never plan to use it on any type of 'big' water, especially at night.
