Type and thickness of aluminum patches

Looking for some advice as I work on patching the hull of my old boat. What thickness of aluminum sheeting is best? 1/16? 1/8? Something else?

Also what type of aluminum is best? 3003, 5052, or 6061?

Don't use 6061 it will corrode. 3003 is ok and I use it because it's readily available. 5000 series is best if you can get it. For a bolted or riveted patch, prime both surfaces first so that the sealant doesn't cause corrosion in between. For a welded patch it doesn't matter because you don't use sealant. Prep surfaces with a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water and a scouring pad.

16 Ga would be fine for a bolt or rivet patch

As a general rule if you are patching the hull I go with the same as the hull thickness. But I am usually welding and I try to make them as inconspicuous as possible.
