Just found this site, I'm considering an Alumacraft Classic 165 for bass fishing to use with my family. I've never fished out of a deep v style boat, how do they fish compared to a mod v such as a Tracker style bass boat. I assume this boat because of the deep v design would be safer in heavy chop due to the higher sides, it comes with a 55# thrust TM and I will probably opt for a 60 hp Yamaha 4 stroke motor. Just would like to have real world opinions before making any decision. Thanks Mike

Hi Mike,
Welcome and thanks for joining. Your assumptions are correct. Your boat will tend to roll a little more with movements than say a flat tracker type boat. Also you will not be able to get as shallow as the other style (not much difference but still a difference).

You said mostly Bass fishing, How big are the waters you normally fish?

I would plan to use it in East Tennessee lakes as well as Kerr resivoir in Virginia and Guntersville lake in Alabama, mainly on the TVA lakes system and of course local small lakes close to home that most folks arent familiar with and travel to the bigger lakes for weekends and vacations and such. I have considered a mod v style such as a tracker or alumacraft but I don't know how safe they would be on a bigger lake with bigger chop on the water. I really like the info. on this site, nothing like real world opinions to help make an unbiased decision, thanks again and I hope this gets more reponses. Mike.

I've got a 16.5 Tracker Pro Guide (Deep-V) & love it. It's the most stable boat I've ever owned, but it's also the deepest.
