I keep hearing to fill the boat with water up to the water line to test for leaks. well what water line?

Older boats have a water line on the outside of the hull where years of use have stained the boat. This is also called the draft line.. fill the boat at least to that level inside....the rest will be out of the water and it doesn't matter.

Be careful if you do this. If your boat is on a trailer, the extra water weight could cause some serious trailer issues or cause trailer tires to blow, etc.
