Howdy!

I've been searching and can't find much about this topic.

I just acquired a jon boat conversion that is equipped with an electric outboard, a trolling motor, and a bank of 10 batteries. It hasn't been used in 15 years and I'm trying to figure out where to start when getting this thing back to working condition.

Any tips, thoughts, links would be appreciated!

THANKS!

-Mojo

tell us about the electric outboard? Make model and thrust (volts etc.)

Have you tested it at all - tried to see if it runs?

Seems to me that last year, or the year before, there was an Australian guy posting on the forum who was setting up an electric major rig for specific waters in Oz. He was doing a masterful job on it.

Can't remember much more, but some time in the "search" function...may be of service to you.

Best wishes.

use the search function, there are a couple threads here about it. i looked a couple years ago at a couple on random websites, they are out there.

Howdy!

Thanks for the replies. I've searched "electric motor" and such in the search engine with no luck. I'll keep poking!

In the meanwhile..

The Motor is: E-Z-Go Textron, D-C Motor, Model 5bc48jb815, V 36, RPM 2800, HP 2, Time Rating 60 mins, Max Safe 8000Rpm, WOUND Series, Class B, Manufactured by General Electric

Thanks for any help!

I'd love to see if the thing works, but have to replace the batteries to test it. If I replace the batteries, and it doesn't work, then I'll have to replace the electric motor... If I spend that much, I could put a small gas job on there. Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks!
-Mojo

It will run (slowly) on 12 volts - hook it up to your car battery to see if the motor turns - if it does then you will need at least three batteries to make 36V

Cool! I'm heading out to get a replacement trolling motor and battery, so I'll try it with that!

Thanks for the tip!!!
