NJ,
Mattman builds rods, not sure if you knew. But he has even been to the St Croix factory, which I think was pretty cool.

I've heard that they're pretty good. I'd probably buy one over the Premier only because I wouldn't get the Premier and I'd buy a Crucial. I have 3 St Croix fly rods that I love and a spinning rod that I built off a Premier blank, they're all very good. I'd say go for it!

Jim, if you like that check out how bamboo rods are made!

That was pretty cool, I wonder how much one of those rods goes for?

I have one my fourth St Croix, if I could I would switch all my rods to St Croix. As for that model I have a 7 foot heavy for pike, blues, stripers Love the rod for the money, but if you compare it to the premier or the avid you will notice small defects in the fit and finish.

Thx
X

you can find cane fly rods for around $500.00 and up; a pretty good deal when you think about the time put in. I bought tools and took a class and made one-so with all that invested it's about a $1500.00 rod, about half the price of a Winston. You can buy a fine, hand-crafted, custom to your spec from Chris Carlin in Alaska for under $1500.00 but there's a 9 month wait.
