I'd pay $3000. I'd bring $2500 in one pocket and the other $500 in other pockets and go from there. That is a slick ride.

That 25 HP will warp the crap out of your transom over time, open up existing cracks, and create some new ones. I had a '73 lowe 1636 with a 25 hp Johnson, so I learned this from experience. It is cool to blow by an underpowered Lund or two in a hillbilly rig though:). If you keep your boat...

I may have missed this discussed in this thread, but, talking valves...what type of valves do most 4 stroke boat motors employ? On a 12,000 rpm motorcycle engine with shim-over-bucket or shim-under-bucket valves, neglecting checking/shimming them on a regular basis and missing the valves...

Ok, next annoying question. The reason I'm asking, I intend to buy the hull I want and run the johnny on it until I can find a 40 HP jet. It will not work as in, unsafe? Water inlet too high? Cav plate would be @ 2" above the hull bottom.

Boat transom is 16". Cav plate to motor mount point on transom is 18".

I added a splint to the first aid kit and bought another roll of duct tape. Headed north here in a few. :)

Hi all! I searched and found good info on this topic, but still a bit fuzzy to me. This is a 1981 25HP Johnson, runs like a banshee with her hair on fire. Measurements: -Cavitation plate to where shaft housing bolts to powerhead is @ 20.5 inches -Cavitation plate is @ 2 - 2.5 inches below...

Got the pickup back yesterday from the shop. Used the downtime for a waterpump/lower unit fluid change. We're going again tomorrow night. Wish me luck.
