Got my first Boat. Never really had one. Recently retired, I think I am going to fish. It measures about 11'6" Long and I think it was a Montgomery Wards Boat with trailer. The trailer is pretty much junk with half of a Harbor Freight section cleeeeeestered on the back but it rolls. Had 12"er wheels but I've put 8" wheels on it now because it was hard to launch being up so high (I'll mod this trailer or get a different one eventually).

I've only worked on the inside so far and hope to strip the exterior next year. It's got a pretty flat bottom with ribs that are only about a half inch high, so not sure what kind of "Floor" I can really put in it after I get the two or three leaky rivets shored up.

I've got grand kids and I did not like the thought of them having to jump over that middle seat so after looking at other peoples images, I modified things, cutting a 12" wide path. I put a small deck up front with a hatch and added a couple of seats. It does not seem to make the boat flex any more than it did, but I want to pull a string across the middle with marks on it so I can compare the difference between on the trailer and in the water with people and gear.

Then a buddy told me to I had to do boat "ABM".... (additional boat math), making absolute sure I stuck enough money into it, in order to lose at least 50% of that when I sell it. He said that is how it is supposed to work, lol. That lead me to adding a Newport 55lb trolling motor, Lithium Battery, Switch Panel, Navigational Lighting, Bilge Pump, Garmin Striker 4, Attwood Anchor Lift and those retractable Gunwale straps (Boy I sure like those). I've got to add some indirect interior lighting yet, maybe a white bow light and what the heck,.. I'm thinking maybe a radio ? Oh, and that flat floor perhaps. And then you have all those nice looking EVA coverings...

Then I found a 2HP Evinrude for redundancy, BUT then I found a nice little 4HP Evinrude and have stuck with that for now. I've got prop questions, but I'll ask that in a different forum. I need to get a fishing rod yet because my pal calls the rod I got a "snoopy rod".

Well, I know people like PICS, so I have attached some. If anyone sees a major flaw, I sure wouldn't mind criticism !

Welcome to TinBoats! You are in the boat $$vortex now!

That is a nice rig. You did a nice job cutting out that center seat.

Since you asked, it looks like the boat hangs pretty far off the back of the trailer and the bunks are not under the transom. The transom should be fully supported by the bunks. If you keep that trailer you might be able to shift the boat forward on the trailer. Then if needed extend the bunks so they are under the transom. The raw edge of the transom plywood should be well sealed. To protect the raw plywood edge and prevent water from seeping between it and the transom I might consider putting an aluminum U-channel wide enough (1.5"?) to cover the whole transom top. It looks to me like the corner caps are bolted on. If so it would be easy to remove them, put the channel then put the corner caps back on.

Enjoy!

Very nice craft & Welcome to the forum

Them Snoopy rods have been known to catch fish!

Nice job.... Consider the fore mentioned recomendations as there are very good. I might add, watch your weight !! Small 12' don't handle much and when you start adding kids and grandkids, it adds up quickly !! We want to keep everyone safe !

I've moved the boat ahead since that side photo. Now the bunks hang out about 1" behind the boat when I am up against the front rubber. To this point, I was not too concerned about that trailer because it is sketchy, and I intend to find another trailer. I see pretty decent ones in my area for as low as $150, but they go really fast.

All that said, I will be doing some research about the best boat cradling details because I think the current bunks are not far enough apart. I don't dare pull the rear straps very tight as I see the floor moving easily. I think the bunks are supposed to ride a little farther out towards where the curve upwards starts because it would be a lot stronger there. Also, I think I should lay the bunks the flat way if possible rather than on edge to get a hair lower. The less you have to back in at the ramp, the better. At least that seems to appeal to me.

I think the 1.5" U channel is necessary too. Never gave it a thought as I just replaced the board that was there and it had nothing but horrid looking yellow paint on it. I've had the handle/caps off because they were busted up and I had to tig a few spots back together. Polished up, I cant even really tell where I fixed them anymore. Thanks for the Tip !

Yep. I know I probably already at my limit. I forget what the tag says right now. (660 I think). I don't think of it as anything more than a 2 person boat. I see all these guys putting a lot of structure in these small boats and then standing 8-10" higher on a deck? Not for me ! And not this boat.

I'm going to pull the heavy stuff off and weight it all up some time. At least my battery is light !

Thanks ! I think I will just stick with that rod just to wind him up. I think if he came along with me, he would want to bring 8 or 10 rods along. He says "I dont understand", and I think I do. I need a hook, some worms and a bobber. Calm earth music (birds, chipmuks, etc.) quietly in the background. Good enuf !

What a clean lil boat! Nice job! You’ll out fish your buddy with that snoopy pole while he’s still rigging his 10 and you can give him “the look” as you’re holding your lil zebco

Been years, but I was never comfortable with those spincast reels. I was always pushing the button at the wrong time.
Took me years in my younger days before I realized you push the button hard and it locks the line to cast, then just release the button on the cast. Tossed some perfectly good reels after getting pissed off at them before I understood how they worked. Of course my friends never spoke up, so they could gather the reels I tossed out !!
