Been reading these forums for several months now. Thanks for sharing all the great projects. Here are a couple of pics of my Monark 1458 (1960 something?) with a 1976 merc 9.8. I have given her a complete paint job and new transom. Im now ready for the front deck. Where do i start? I think i want to go with 2x2 spruce for the frame.normal_IMG_1304.jpgnormal_IMG_1306.jpg

Thats a good looking flat for being that old. Would like to see what it looked like prior to paint. When I built my forward decks I used 2x2's. Avoid PT wood. Use a good sealant.

I have had my deck on my boat for a long time and I just took a piece of 1/2'' plywood water sealed it real good then rhino lined it al around. And cut it to fit on top of the boat rather than inside it. then i bolded it to the outside rims of the front of the boat lol that was a mouthful. But it does just fine and me and my pals walk all over it doesn’t flex and I and my pals are all 200+ pounds. Figure this might help to keep the weight distribution down because 14 Jon boats are only designed to carry maybe 600 pounds and every ounce you add counts. Anyways hope my 2 cents helps

Thanks for the input. I will post the begining to end pics when im finished. I built the frame out of 2x2 spruce and small metal plates. I have the P/T plywood ready to cut. Should i treat it with anything or just carpet it and attach?

How you find out the year? I have a mon ark 1458 but don't have a hin# plate on it just a plate at the front with model and a 5 digit serial number.
