This is meant to be just for information. Please don't make the post about politics or I'll delete it myself.

There is a good chance new tariffs will be put in place shortly after the new year. If you want something that is high ticket, you might want to make that purchase now. Come early in the new year you might find things costing 20% more.

Yes. You're correct. Prices were set to rise in the new year as well so if you can scoop what you need, do it now.
We have a postal strike going on in Canada. Trying to get stuff from a small company will be next to impossible as long as the strike continues. Other delivery companies are extremely busy too because of the shift in business and black Friday.
Life is going to cost more going forward on both sides of the border.

One might also want to investigate things in California, especially concerning small gas engines. I think it's this coming year that their new ban on gas engine lawn equipment goes into effect. I would imaging that'll drive pricing up.

Perhaps a Californian can clarify my statement?

Well, my last purchase to beat a tarrif on LiFePO4 batteries, which prices just seamed to decrease, since then.

Boat wise, I was looking to add hydraulic steering to the pontoon. I was investigating a vevor system which is chinese, but will more likely go with the Seastar, but parts of it may be made in China.

I am more concerned with the price of building materials. Planning to start an addition to the camp this year. Allot of lumber coming from Canada.

As if softwood lumber isn't high enough priced as it is.
Canadian lumber seems to carry tariffs all the time. Then when both parties realize just how necessary this lumber is to all of us, the price settles and the grumbling stops.
You may want to wait, if possible, if there is a 25% tariff added because it won't be long before the dust settles and the price comes back down.

I just ordered a 2,000-watt battery backup system myself. Yes, the prices on the batteries are falling but if the tariffs do kick in the prices will rise for a time until the cost of goods drops sufficiently to even things out. The system I bought (will get in a week or two) should run the basics in my house for about 24 hours (Fridge, a few lights, laptops, cell phones, a fan or two. I plan on picking up a 2,200-3,600 watt inverter to recharge the battery once drained. This should optimize the amount of gas I can store. I have one 200 watt solar panel and will add another or more over time.

Throughout my life I've learned if I ran out and bought everything a politician talked about banning/taxing/tarrifing/regulating/closing for import/sanctioning etc It would literally consume my whole life. They all like to talk but actions? Maybe maybe not....hope this post wasn't too political it's really more of a lifelong observation than anything

Fortunately I just remodeled The house and we have several good cars on hand. Most of anything else we can just do without. And I even got a generator when they rebuilt my electrical panel with a generator plug built in. I think I'm prepared with anything I need for quite some time. Hopefully I can just enjoy my retirement now. I also bought my boat for some fishing fun.

We've all heard the sky is falling routine. No different then the next ice age vs the ice is melting and we'll all be under water soon. I agree, to run ones life by what a politician says he will do is bordering crazy. But I have a feeling the system wants greater inflation and this will certainly cause it. I may be wrong, and that's alright. Just wanted to put the info out in case one feels the same way. Peace.

Most of the tariff talk is just positioning. Tariffs will increase, but not by the numbers being thrown around. I won't make any buy decision based on current discussions.
