I remember that during the election, tempers flared.

Have things calmed down, or are people just gone?

Over the years, I've seen several otherwise good forums decline to nothing over stuff like that. There was a very helpful group here. Hopefully, the run is not over for this forum.

Everyone is bummed out due to the boating/fishing season being done until next spring. Gets even worse after the holidays, during that long cold stretch until spring....at least that is how it goes for me !

Good to know.

I've been hunting, too. It's been cold. Saw 4 deer right before dark on Tuesday, but didn't pull the trigger because I didn't feel like doing the work in the dark. Plus, they were fairly small, and I didn't want to burn that spot.

Not only boating/fishing, but in MN it's even to cold to enjoy working on the next phase of the rebuild. So I'm planning taking out a middle bench for that brief period in April when it's too sloppy to do yard work but warm enough to work in the garage.

Already looking forward to the spring crappie trip! Usually the first week in May, NE Ohio.

Several of us old farts actually go camping that week. I've known these guys for over 50 years. One guy was my "best man".

The fishing has always been "good enough" as long as the weather cooperates. The comradery is priceless.

I, too, go on annual trips with a group of guys. At 66, I'm the "kid." Most of the others are in their mid-70s, the oldest will turn 85 this year. We do Minnesota in early May (crappie and bass), and Northwest Ontario in August (walleye, northern pike, bass, and muskie if we get lucky).

The stories we can, and do, tell.

We're a little younger but opener and late Sep/Oct in Ely. Two of us met in 1st grade and the other in 7th. Friends for 55 years. And the best part is the wives get along so they come with and we don't even have to make up for missing Mother's Day!

We depart for Minnesota on Mother's Day, and to be honest, it's something I've tried to change for a couple of years now. It wasn't a big deal to my wife (of 40 years), but now that we have our first grandchild, it's taking on new importance to us.

Separate from that group, my life-long friend and I take a 4 day fly-fishing trip in Southern Missouri every November. I've known him since 6th grade, and he's the one who taught me fly fishing 20 years ago. This year we're mixing it up a little and we're going on that fly fishing trip the second weekend of January. We've fished in very cold conditions before and we deal effectively with iced-up rods. Yeah, we're a bit nuts.

You're absolutely right about the camaraderie.

You're absolutely right about the camaraderie.

Minnesotan for all but my college years. I've done opener two days after ice out but more recently in shorts. And the only reason I don't do more cold fall fishing is my buddies are hunters (I'm not) and their focus changes come October. If I lived on a lake I'd go out until ice-up but the trailering routine loses its charm when you're doing it all yourself in the cold.

Married kinda late, so only 33 for us. But we met in May, first date in June, engaged in early August and married that December. So obviously we were ready!

Damn, we met in June, dated for 12 years, got engaged, married after 14 years. Even then I told her marrying me was a mistake. She didn't listen. A couple of times I tested her will, but she's still holding on. She's a tough one to crack.

Yea... 30 years married for us but we met and lived together for 4 years before that.
Paid the house off together. Lived on a motorcycle for 32 summers and she didn't mind at all. Now I sit in a tin boat for a day at a time and she still doesn't mind.
What's the secret? Don't worry about the small stuff, and it's all small stuff. Look after each other. And don't bitch all the time. Be civil. Other than that, just wing it.

May 18th 2025 will be 35 years for me and wife, best thing I ever did when I married this woman, not too sure how she has put up with me for that long (LOL) but she must be a Saint for doing it!
