    Confessions of a Total Doofus

You definitely need to be able to get into neutral on approach and keep the motor running so you can make adjustments or immediately reset without having to take the time to restart the motor. Like Dale said above, approach at a speed where you wouldn't have issues if you hit the dock. The...

Where do you store your boat registration while out on the water?

That's where mine goes. Along with a few critical keys like my rod lockers and spare tire lock on the trailer.

Difference between aluminum and stainless props

Food for thought- I run aluminum on my 150 Merc because it's cheaper to replace a damaged alum prop than it is to even repair it- let alone repair a steel prop. I can get a new alum prop for about $150 as long as the hub kit didn't get damaged. I was told a repair and re-balance would start at $200.

    Fish finder recommendation

I've had H-Bird, Lowrance and Garmin. The Garmin has the best imaging if you are going for a side or down scan model. The H-Birds have a pretty good feature set and probably the most intuitive menu layout. The Lowrance I had wasn't a very high end model and didn't have imaging, but it had a...

    Fishing License

Wow, that is high, although you are lucky enough to live in a state big enough to likely provide all the fishing opportunities you need. Where I live I have to buy NH, ME, VT and MA and sometimes NY which I do every year on Jan 1. It's brutal. With my snowmobile registration in both NH and ME...

Outboard Mounting Bolts - No washers on Transom Bracket Side?

Just looked at my Merc 150 Saltwater that was professionally installed by an authorized Merc dealer, washers and nylock nuts on all 4 bolts.

    Worms Anyone?

Here in the Northeast there are a lot of bodies of water that are artificial only, so I decided a long time ago to hone my methods to only fish that way. The only thing I ever use them for now is if we go horn pout fishing or if I take a child fishing on my boat. Then I'll buy a tub of worms for...

New Boat! Picked her up this morning!

Nice, open layout! If I lived somewhere warm I sure would like a boat with that kind of layout, but tomorrow mornings first mission of the year is going to be 43 degrees and raining so I'll take my full windshield and enclosure thank you!

Vehicle Trailer Lights - Work...but not on New Boat?

I'm so the opposite of what the last few have said... I'll never run a flat 4 trailer plug again. The 7 way is so superior it's not even funny. I guess it's worth noting that both my trailers have dual axles and electronic brakes, so maybe I'm a different use case.

How to temporarily fill this gap in my floor/hull seam?

Temporarily I would just use something called "backer rod" which is what we use in commercial construction to fill joints or cracks before we caulk them to limit caulk waste. It's basically a roll of closed cell foam "tubing" that can come in almost any dimension. Stuff it in there until you get...

    DIY Livewell?

I use a 30gal trash barrel on the salt. Fill it with the raw water washdown.

GREAT Site for replacement decals for Boats or OB Motors~!

That could be, although I seem to remember they were very similar to the price and layout to what is offered here. I wish I could find an outboard cover for my 2004 Merc 150, but I haven't been successful yet.

GREAT Site for replacement decals for Boats or OB Motors~!

I've bought two sets of stickers off Ebay for my 150 Merc Saltwater and they both peeled within a few years. Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong, Dale? I clean the cowl real good, polish it as best I can, then use alcohol before application.

    reliability

I own a Merc 6hp 4 stroke and I personally would try to steer you to an 8hp or above for one simple reason- they are smoother. Anything below an 8hp is now a single cyl motor and mine, although it's been a flawless runner, is a chunky little beast and vibrates my 3400lb, 21' boat quite a bit...

    Bunk boards for fiberglass hull?

I personally use cheap, non-treated pine boards for my bunks. They last for years upon years and I'm launching in the salt all the time.

    Lund 14' ssv : hydrofoil?

I certainly did. My 14' Starcraft with a 25hp Merc had one on the motor when I bought the boat. At one point I decided to take it off and see how it performed. If I had a second person in the boat it would basically no longer get on plane. But with just me, it took some time to get on plane but...

How many of you like night fishing?

Through the ice we catch smelt at night and run cusk lines. Open water the only thing I target at night are stripers. In NH we have to stop fishing for trout and salmon 2 hours after sunset.
