    inside hull fishfinder mounting

Just drill a hole in the bottom and stick the threaded stem through from underneath. Chase the nut down tight inside the hull and you are done. Don't paint the face of the transducer.

    I Bought This Boat Today

Floor boards look like pressure treated. Need to change them out.

    Trolling motor quick disconnect

I went to Amazon and checked forklift connectors as they connect the battery negative and positive leads in a neat little connector block. You need one connector for the battery and another connector for the trolling motor. The connectors should be "dead front" which means they won't be shorted...

Battery at one end of boat, elec. motor at other - wiring?

It was a good idea to re purpose the jumper cables. You can't skimp on the connections though. When you connect to the battery terminals they have to be shiny clean. How well the wire terminates in the battery connector is easy to accomplish. The best wire termination in a boat is a pressure...

Pos/neg wires to battery w/elect start.

Someone saved a buck by buying black wire. The positive wire will run to the starter solenoid and the negative wire will be grounded on an engine bolt. Check the battery connection end (if it is still there)as the battery has a big post for positive connection and the smaller size post is negative.

    Tapered Oarlock Socket Issue

If you have bushings the oar horns fit into snug but not tight but they don't fit the holders on the boat, reshape the bushings to fit. You could also make your own bushings. Don't waste your time trying to row with it as is. In an emergency you could just not use the bushings.

Removing the top of a bench seat?

This pic is from a Mirrocraft, the seat has folded edges that wood strips fit into. The foam was filled around the wood and against the inside of the seat, in the original the foam was faced with steel panels. I will take some better pics if it will help. I am replacing the wood strips, have...

Best solar panel for my 2 battery boat??

A small 12x12 panel of good quality and a charge controller to match will give you about 1 amp charge in good sun. It will keep batteries up and help to offset the effects of loss of voltage with time as a battery loses voltage from contamination and temperature cycling. The main job of heavy...

Can I hook up a starting and deep cycle battery in parallel?

Why not install a 2 battery select switch. Then you have the safety of a disconnect switch, the choice of power; battery 1 or battery 2. For charging separately, buy two diodes from Radio shack and install direct into wiring from charging system. The diodes will set you back about $5, the...

    Opinions/help needed

Look at some boats like yours that have a top. I expect you have a simple top that has a front and back with no snaps for windshield or side covers. You don't need a track and hardware is not expensive. I use hamiltonmarine.com and they will likely send a catalog if you ask. See page 254 canvas...

    Float pods

I would wash it, paint it a color you like, clamp on a small motor and get out on the water. It is a nice safe boat as it is.

    looking at transoms...(boats that is... ;) )

15" for short shaft, 20" for long shaft. I prefer long shaft and higher freeboard. water coming over the stern takes a lot of 'em.

    My First Boat Restoration

My experience with JB weld is you can sand it down, scrape it, and if you want to remove it - do it with lots of ventilation, heat an old screwdriver blade and stick it into the JB Weld. It will fall apart from the heat, don't heat the aluminum directly.

    1968 14 Foot Mirrocraft rebuild

I appreciate the information on pressure treated wood and aluminum. I am going to paint the inside of the seat and then use a tape barrier to prevent contact between the wood and aluminum. I feel the water will not be significant under the seat area and the sun here will keep it baked out. I...

New guy here with question about a 1964 Evinrude Lark VI 40

On the windshield, I have tried to clean clear plastic items and discovered alcohol will cause fractures and in some cases disintegration. Any time you are new the windshield with any chemicals beware. I am really pleased it will keep its engine too. A really nice project.

    14' Mirrocraft - First build

Look up sheet metal work on You Tube. You don't need expensive tools. A ball peen hammer, wood blocks, you will be amazed.

    Fish finder transducer install

No you cannot mount a depth sounder transducer by gluing it to aluminum, wood, steel, foam. It can be done on fibreglass hulls if there is really clear resin or epoxy with no air bubbles. Even if it is mounted inside on a fibreglass hull, you have to be sure to place it so air bubbles flowing...

    Wiring Diagram for my build

If you have a real marine grade battery selector switch, I would wire it direct to the battery. Place your fuse or circuit breaker between the battery switch and the positive buss bar. Having the fuse/circuit breaker at the battery may cause corrosion and failure of the fuse/circuit breaker...

    Hub Spindle gap

The metal is shiny on the axle next to the hub, if you didn't polish it then I would say the hub is not fully seated. The fact the nut barely made it on enough to put in a cotter pin tells me there are problems. You should never hammer on bearings, races, or seals and if you did, take everything...
