What is the max cap.for a 1990 MonArk 1436 Flat Bottom Jon

The 1644 is a LOT bigger boat than the 1436. Most 1436 boats are rated for 15HP. 9.9s and 15s are perfect for these boats.

Corrosion and pitting in the transom

You did a good job of cleaning up the surface .... your fix will hold a long long time.

    Maximizing Value of Boat

It looks like a great platform for a project, especially if the motor runs well. If you were going to sell it, I'd say its not worth your time or money to do anything to it. Anyone buying that boat will be looking for a project anyway and will want to do things their own way. I'd guess its...

Can I safely remove the front bench

Opinions will vary, but mine is that removing the seat and adding a deck will be just fine .... and will make the boat much more comfortable to fish from.

    Mid 80's 25hp Evinrude

Getting a good condition older motor for free is AWESOME! Definitely take it. My opinion is that there is no good reason to overpower a boat ..... so get a bigger boat   Find an old used 16' boat for a couple hundred bucks ... clean it up and slap the 25 on the back. You'll be...

    1980 evinrude 9.9 starting problems

I agree with this. If it starts fine at home and then won't start after you drive to the lake .... there is a good chance your float is bouncing around on the drive and getting stuck. I'm guessing it falls back into place while you are putting around with the electric. Sounds like a carb...

    35 horse Evinrude any ideas?

I agree. Tell him if he gets it fixed and running well, you'll pay him $800.

contemplating trading my 2 stroke for a 4stroke

The 4 stroke will be heavier, quieter, more efficient, use less oil, not require mixing, more complicated to fix, newer, less powerful and the list goes on and on. You'll have to decide for yourself which pros/cons make a difference to you. If it were me, I'd pay the $1,500 in a hearbeat to...

    Thinking about the Powerdrive V2

If you think you will upgrade to i-pilot, then go with the Terrova instead of the Powerdrive. After you upgrade a Powerdrive to i-pilot, you can ONLY use the remote and there is no foot pedal (well, it still exists, you just can't use it). A Terrova can be used with the i-pilot remote and the...

    tracker hull / keel

X2! Looks like a keep guard to me. If it is, the pulling away shouldn't hurt anything. The majority of boats I've bought leaked. Mostly though, it was an easy fix. A water test is best, but a good visual inspection of the hull and transom can tell you a LOT.

Seal/ paint outside of aluminum jon boat

Does the boat currently leak? If not, I'd just leave it alone. Aluminum is darn tough and can withstand decades of being beached on gravel. Just don't run it aground at full throttle  Steelflex is known to chip off on rocks relatively easily. And even if it doesn't chip off, down...

    3M 5200?

X2 on this! Properly installed rivets are perfectly water tight. In an ideal world, any leaks would be fixed by replacing rivets or welding cracks ..... but since we don't live in an ideal world, 5200 is there to bail us out, and it does a darn good job of it.

    First boat.....good deal?

That's a nice little boat. Fairly wide with flat carpeted floors and two swivel seats. Trailer looks solid and functional. Price is VERY dependent on location, but around here $600 isn't a bad price at all. $500 would be good and $400 would be great. $300 would be an absolute steal...

    starcraft 16' ss

A 25HP on a 900 pound boat will be significantly under-powered. You will be very very disappointed with the performance. Yes, it will push the boat along but I doubt you'll get on plane and top speed will be about 10mph or less. 40 would be about as low as you can go and still get decent...

    too much motor? - - - - - - - lots of pictures

This is a joke, right?!?! You can't seriously be considering running that motor on that boat. You would be a fool many times over to do so. If the motor really only cost you $500 and it runs fine, then simply sell it .... get a proper motor for the boat .... and pocket a thousand dollars.

Modifications to 16' V-hull lowe to Row boat?

Welcome to TinBoats!! =D> =D> To your question, I really don't think cutting down the sides of an aluminum v-hull is a good idea. You will seriously be messing with the structural integrity of the boat. Its a bad idea. Even if you did, it wouldn't remove all that much weight and wouldn't...

    Paint Question

It has definitely been done and the pics I've seen look very good. I've seen it done many times on vehicles too. Most of the guys used a relatively small foam roller and just worked slowly and carefully. As with all painting projects, good prep work on the surface is the key to a nice finish...

    Ordered Goop 'Coat-it'--review pending--

I'd like a to hear a review of how well it held up after a few seasons of river fishing  Seriously though, we seem to hear a lot of stories about products like this chipping off fairly easily when dragged over rocks. Not that the product isn't good, but think about what you are asking...

steel flex or a bed liner?

In my opinion, the best thing you can do for your hull is to make sure all the rivets are tight and leave it bare. Leaks are almost always because of leaky rivets that can be replaced easily and cheaply. Aluminum is tough stuff and will take a LOT of punishment. It doesn't need to be coated...
