    Transom rebuild 14' aluminum boat

I suspect that cap comes off of the transom to allow replacement of the wood. I did something similar to this: Add a couple of pieces of all-thread from the transom to the rear bench seat. I actually installed a piece of stainless rectangular tubing behind the seat but the seat will work...

    Fall overboard? This might help.

If we're talking about going off shore, I think every boat should have an EPRIB or PLB onboard. The ocean is a big, big place to look for a broken down or capsized boat. A lot of the time they never find them. An emergency radio beacon gets the coast guard there every time.

New to forum new boat owner

I can help with question #3. Get decals made that say 20hp. Older Tohatsu outboards are very in demand around here. Most of our lakes are smaller and limited to under 10hp. 9.9hp Tohatsu motors are identical to 15hp motors but with a different carburetor. Lots of owners buy the 15hp carb...

    Vertical Storing of Jon?

Won't hurt the boat unless you have the transom sitting on the ground or concrete you will get pitting / corrosion of the aluminum in contact with the ground. Put it on blocks and it will be fine in that position for 100 years.

    Driveshaft stuck in powerhead

Clamp collars like your photo are used all the time to pull shafts. The power head is probably robust enough to survive the pulling but...I would look at how difficult it would be to remove the lower cowl or whatever is required to get access to the shaft splines and socket where it's stuck...

    Kicker motor

I've got a 5hp kicker on my 17' boat. Runs at 5.5mph at "cruise". It's not fast but it's plenty strong enough to keep the speed consistent.

    Help identifying this item

There is supposed to be a short length of safety chain that goes into this notch. This is to prevent the trailer from tilting if the latch accidentally releases while going down the highway.,

    Trolling Motor Mishap

I have a small 5hp kicker that is mounted next to my main motor with just the screw clamps, no bolts. I don't want it to vibrate loose so I made my own tether with a short piece of rope.

    How Shot Is My Propeller?

I just replaced one that looked almost exactly like yours. I'm glad I replaced it because cracks start at edge damage and I don't want to lose a blade or a chunk of a blade while I'm on the water. But I haven't noticed any difference in performance. Same hole shot, same top end.

Poor Rib Drainage in 14' Starcraft Seafarer - Solutions?

The ribs seem pretty important to me. The center of the rib seems like the most important part of the rib since it's subject to the most stress. If it was my boat, and I relied on it to keep me from sinking, I would not cut or bend the ribs - especially right in the middle. If I was...

Using Solution Welding Rod For Boat Fabrication

Sounds like this is an aluminum brazing rod instead of a traditional electric arc welding rod. I've used aluminum brazing rods with success but not this brand. However, there are some issues. 1) Unlike steel, aluminum does not change color as the temperature changes. Steel will get yellow...

    guide on bunks

And I don't need the boots. Rope gets tied to the bow eye while I'm still in the boat and I walk the rope up to the trailer from the dock while the winch is just at the edge of the water. I then back the trailer in another 15' and stand on the dock pulling the rope to pull the boat onto the...

    guide on bunks

I'm fortunate to have a dock next to the ramp where I launch. I tie to the dock and then back my trailer in. I never motor my boat onto the trailer. The skeg on my motor is only a few inches off the ground when loaded and I don't want my prop to bump the ramp. I've added an eye bolt next to...

    How much Paint is Needed

I don't know the answer but most, maybe all, paint cans tell you how many square feet the can will cover. Figure that you'll need 20% more than it says because boats aren't like painting a flat wall.

Mounting a fuel filter to the transom

I don't see how that would trap air any more than the high point in your fuel line would. Air would have to come from somewhere. As long as the dip tube in your tank is below the fuel line, there shouldn't be any air to accumulate.

Help, please Handicap Railing for boat

I have a harbor freight hydraulic pipe bender. I can get aluminum pipe locally and have fabricated several marine related things out of al pipe. Pipe and tubing are different sizes and the bending dies will collapse tubing so you need pipe - which can be harder to find. IT would be pretty...

Mercury 50 hp wot rpm range?

RPM sounds perfect. I looked for an after market tach for an old 2 stroke and gave up the search. This was a 2 cylinder that shared one coil so it would spark 2x for every rotation as opposed to 1 x for every 2 rotations for 4 strokes. I never found one that would do what I wanted. What did...
