    Christmas photos?

Ha! We regularly transition from Christmas to Valentine"s Day and frequently leave the tree up til Easter. Change the ornaments for the holiday as they come and, of course, the tree is artificial...

    Merry Christmas everyone!

Happy Holidays to "the crew" here on tinboats! I even snuck in a couple hours on the Tyee 1850 restoration after the fam left after the festivities!

What have you been up to lately?

I have struggled a bit with retirement, Covid years, and loss of work friendships. On the other hand, I have been letting my freak flag fly as I am in deep project mode. That part of retirement has been fun. Had a porsche 944 turbo project, then a Vanagon project, and now on a Lund Tyee total...

    Good alternative to plywood?

I went with Blue Water 26 Coosa I went with Blue Water 26 Coosa and then added Gluvit to the Coosa. One thing I noticed was that Coosa is brittle. My experience with Wood and sheet metal screws made me feel that regular quality plywood held screws a little stronger than the Coosa. Dont get me...

Need your help again. How does this work?

My 93 Tyee 1850 has 2 thru hull holes under each of 2 bow livewells. These passively fill the LV's. There is also a livewell(pulling water) pump in the stern of my boat which pushes water towards the LV's via a hose which "T's" at the LV's and feeds each aerator. Each LV passively drains via...

Anyone here use Vevor hydraulic steering system?

I am probably a month away from installing the Vevor "Seastar" power steering kit on my 93 Lund Tyee. Gotta build the helm console first then new power steering and transmission control cables from Yamaha.

    Wood Deck Sealant

I used the "cold weather" TotalBoat penetrating epoxy on 3 sheets of 3/4" and 2 sheets of 1/2" on a total rebuild of a 93 Lund Tyee 1850. Very easy to use and thin.

Complete refit of 93 Lund Tyee GS...bonding question

greetings crew! i have completely disassembled my 1850 Tyee GS and ran into something I am not sure about. After removing the deck boards and replacing, I discovered a green wire from the fuel tank sender and it connects to a screw on the metal fuel filler port of the boat. I see that abyc...

Do I really "need" a casting deck?

like you, i am an inveterate modder. I am doing a complete refit on a 93 Lund Tyee 1850 and time has been my friend. The extra time thinking about maintenance, usability, and durability have led to several modifications that will make the boat more enjoyable. The knee jerk to a completely decked...

    New / Retread from WA.

ive spent time on the anacortes ferry to Shaw, Lopez, Orcas, Port Townsend, etc. Gorgeous to be in a large canoe paddling past Orca pods, Whirlpools, porpoises and dolphins. The San Juans are just epic.

    Marine Vinyl Install Question

i think you might have the same problem with Marideck. i have always glued, wrapped, and stapled. this time around i am gluing EVA to the wood and then gluing wrapping and stapling. Thinking nice and cushy on the feet.

    1996 Spectrum 18' Sport - Am I crazy?

i'd pass. force motors arent great and with all the missing pieces, i think i would look for a more solid boat. having said this, wander on over to tiny Boot Nation and have a gander. Tons o fun in all that stuff...only takes some skrill and a lot of time.

    Splash Well Rivet Question

good idea on the pop rivets to hold your solid rivet work in place to facilitate a flush and square start for the solid rivet. on the chisel to whack the heads: use the chisel so the bevel is down and the flat side up. you will find those head come off a bit easier and less damage to the...

    Marine Vinyl Install Question

one thing to be aware of: Marideck recommends a solvent based adhesive if vinyl is being glued to epoxied boards. The water based adhesive needs bare wood and i encapsulated my deck boards in epoxy. i don't know what is in the "old guys formula" but Marideck recommends MD-102 for gluing down...

Not crazy about Total Boat epoxy. Fish eye issue.

i think that is "unseen" contamination. Looks like someone put a can of "something" on that wood and it dripped and spread some. what temperature was this applied in and cured in? i have used gallons of Totalboat Cold Weather 2:1 epoxy with great results.

Sealing jon boat deck with epoxy

if its waterproof, why not do a 30% thin and try it on some end grain. let 2 coats of that to cure and then 2-3 coats non-thinned. if the epoxy is waterproof, it should turn the wood into soilid plastic. That's what i did but the product was made for marine use. I then glued EVA onto the sealed...
