Evinrude 25 wot timing issue? surging

Do you know specifically what was getting stuck under the flywheel? Also note - WD40 is not a lubricant. It's a water dispersal fluid so when it dries up your symptoms may reappear. IF you know what the problem was, I'd suggest lubing with a true lubricant. CMOS

Replaced a dozen rivets, half leaking?

I second the 3M 5200. Also, I've never had a problem with blind rivets below the water line (when using the 5200...). YMMV. CMOS

Kill Switch ? I don't need no stinkin kill switch

Easy. You can buy the switch and lanyard as a kit. It will have 2 wires. You simply cut ONE of your primary ignition wires and connect that switch to that point. The other switch wire goes to a Ground on the Power Head somewhere. When the switch is "activated", you're simply grounding your...

Kill Switch ? I don't need no stinkin kill switch

They didn't combine fishing and "racing". The Bass fishermen were headed back the marina trying to meet a deadline for their tournament fish weigh-in. They chose pure speed over any caution, and now look what happened. :-x CMOS

Kill Switch ? I don't need no stinkin kill switch

    1. I came across this very scenario about 8 years ago - with the driver still in the water. We picked up the driver, then as best I could, matched the spin of his boat. He was able to jump on his boat and shut her down. Risky, indeed, but he was willing to try it. BTW - his kill switch was...

    Is my outboard too low?

I'm running a 9.5 on a 14' tinner and get 14 MPH with ONLY me in the boat (200 lbs). If I get one other adult in the boat, it's 10-11 MPH at best. CMOS

Should I buyt his 25 HP motor?

Just to be clear - if I buy a "Merc" fuel line assembly, it will fit my tank AND the Merc fitting on the motor, right? I ask because of the word "rig" in the above post. CMOS

Should I buyt his 25 HP motor?

So the end that connects to the fuel tank is "universal" with regards to OMC/Merc? CMOS

Should I buyt his 25 HP motor?

OK guys I have a new (to me) motor. It checked out pretty well. I need some help with the fuel line: Right now I have a gas tank and fuel line for my Johnson 9.5 and 15HP. Am I correct that my current fuel line will not work on this Mercury? Please advise. Thanks, CMOS

That's a nice rig. I have the same motor, but a 1966, on my 14' tinner. These are great motors. Mine has NEVER failed to start. Enjoy! CMOS

Should I buyt his 25 HP motor?

I will be going to look at this tomorrow after work. More info on the motor: Old guy bought it new in 1999. Used it occasionally for 2 years, got sick, died. Boat and motor have been in widow's garage since then. New owner (bartered with widow for some work on her house) has never used it...

Should I buyt his 25 HP motor?

Howdy All, I just saw this for sale locally by an individual. The ad states: "Ouachita fiberglass boat with a 98 Mercury 25 HP outboard motor with a tiller handle. Has low hours been sitting up for a long time in the garage not outside". The boat and trailer look like junkers that I may be...

Help with 1982 Johnson 15 HP - water in bottom cylinder

Pappy, "When you get done you will have an engine that has now been properly serviced and will or should need nothing for quite a while." From your mouth to God's ears. CMOS

Help with 1982 Johnson 15 HP - water in bottom cylinder

Thanks Pappy. I've done a carb kit and rebuilt the recoil starter twice (this is what happens when I didn't follow the Service manual instructions...) so taking these things off are easy for me. However - what are the "3 pan mount nuts"? CMOS

Help with 1982 Johnson 15 HP - water in bottom cylinder

I do indeed. One thing I have noticed about the service manual - it states in many places to "remove" this or "replace" that, but doesn't detail HOW to do so. CMOS

Help with 1982 Johnson 15 HP - water in bottom cylinder

Thanks Pappy. I have to admit I'm nervous about doing this myself, but right now it's a ~75 lb paper weight. Are you referring to the "shift linkage" down where the lower unit connects? CMOS
