I think that would all depends in the thickness of your carpet and how "snug" a fit your looking for. If you have some scrap I would suggest measuring the thickness of your carpet and go from there. Make some tests and figure it out before going at your finished work. I would take two...

I've thought the same thing and from what I can find its fine unless it kinks. I believe I have previously read someone who ran a broom handle through the middle to avoid that scenario

That's awesome. Did you have to do anything to the transom to support the increased torque from the engine weight being up higher?

I used the blue Lowe's branded board. Haven't been on the water yet, but it is perfect for what I needed.

My plan is just about the same, except I'm lining between the ribs with foam board. Gives a bit more support, and sound deadening. (I don't want the board slapping against the ribs as I walk)
