I have come into possession of a late 60' or early 70's 10/32 ft riveted Sears Jon boat. Its in OK shape . The biggest issue is one of the seats has been damaged due to a limb falling into to it pulling it away from the side( the side is OK) . I would like to remove the damaged seat completely and move the rear set forward to the center of the boat. I also plan on adding some 1/8" x3"x30" aluminum flat plate in between the factory bracing to reinforce the floor.

Anyone think removing the ft seat and relocating the rear seat to the center will make it structurally deficient?

My plan is to convert it into a large "sneak" type boat w/ foot controlled steering and remote mount TM controls.

Thanks,
Vic

It would help a lot to see some pictures. Can you post some.

Generally, moving seats around won't hurt the integrity of the boat .... especially if you are adding additional bracing, decking, or flooring.

I actually logged on right now to ask this same question for my 10' Sears Jon boat. I'm too heavy for the back seat of my boat so I'm moving it forward. And if I need to row I can comfortably do it sitting on the floor. If you greet it done before I do post pics and if I get it done I'll post some

I've already sent the boat to the sandblaster to have all the paint and silicone removed, but I have a friend who has one similar to it. I will get a few pics of his boat and post them . It'll probably be Friday before I can get them and post.

Same here except I want to convert mine into a creek/ sneak boat :)

I drilled out all my rivets today to fix leaks and move seats. Moving the rear seat 14" forward Madera huge difference for me. Maybe I wont cramp up using the tiller right behind my back. Should also be able to plane out easier now.
