12' Gregor

New guy here.
I float tube the local bays and lakes here in San Diego. I finally got tired of having to make the long paddle out to my spots and started looking around. I initially wanted a 14' deep V, but one never came up. Checked craigslist daily and finally stumbled upon a 1986 13 foot gregor, according to the owner. Checked it out and left him with an offer which he refused (I'm a college student/full time file clerk, so I was definitely on a budget). At this point, I began looking again and magically got a call from him a few days later, asking me when I could pick it up.

Arrived at home safely

Removed Wood & Foam

Transom & '92 Evinrude 15hp

Bow Bench

Mid Bench

Rear Bench

Plans:
I am redoing the wood benches and may be putting new foam as well.
I'm keeping the fuel tank on the deck and may add a small fish finder on the rear bench.

Anyone ever worked on a similar outboard?
It starts and runs for about 10 minutes with the choke pulled out. As soon as I push it back in, it turns off. To make things worse, the recoil starter went out so I'll be replacing that in the next week or so.

Hello, and welcome aboard!
I will leave the motor question to those more in the know; but it will take your Gregor well past 20 mph once you get it "right".
You will enjoy the Gregor, it a strong and efficient hull.

Nope, happy if you can find something that helps your project. You will find lots of good ideas here. That really is what this site is all about, sharing hints, tips, tricks and ideas so the next mod that someone does is The Best Yet. That and building fellowship among those with a common interest. BTW, I do suggest you replace any flotation that has been removed.

Thanks. I'm definitely replacing the foam. I'm trying to do things right so I'll be pick some new foam up as soon as I can get a hold of some.

Looks like a good project ya got there.

The engine sounds like it might have been sitting, the fuel system or carb might have gunk built up. There are alot of sites you can look up info on the engine. If you are mechanically inclined it should be pretty straight forward.

How much did you end up getting it for??

I'm cleaning out the carb and ordered a replacement spring for the recoil starter.
I payed $600. The registration on the boat was payed every year so no hidden fees. Trailer has brand new tires/rims/lights + it tilts for beach launching in Baja.


I dry-fitted the new wood yesterday. A couple layers of paint and clear should do the trick.

Quick question for you guys. My middle rear bunk is missing a piece of foam on the right side ( about a foot or so). Should I worry about that? I don't know what I would be looking for, if I were to visit a marine shop.

Your boat is looking good!! I've always been impressed with the build quality of the Gregor boats, they look to be extremely well made hulls.

Great idea. I actually have quite a few in the garage.
If something doesn't pop up locally I'll most likely go about with the noodles.

Finally got someone to take a look at my outboard. Needs some carb work, and it the tech said he would have it back to me by next week.

Its going to need some carb work and a new recoil starter spring. Guy gave me an estimate, and I'm looking at around 300 bucks to get the OB running in tip-top shape.

The plan is to get a second look at the outboard, run some sea foam and go from there.

Fix the outboard yourself. You're probably looking at $40 in parts. There are countless videos on youtube that will walk you through rebuilding a carb, it's really quite simple.

The outboard ended up needing a bit more work then I imagined so its off to the shop.

Anyone know where I can get a replacement Stern Handle? I'm missing one. I've tried emailing Gregor, but I'm not getting a reply.

You might try their on-line form for submitting questions and comments (you can tell them to pay closer attention to their inbox AND ask your question). Then contact the closest dealer, if needed.

I'm finally on vacation so I'm back at it.

I was storing the boat at a friend's house and apparently someone thought it would be okay to use my benches for a bon-fire. :shock:

What's the easiest way to re-do the benches now? Cardboard?
