Ok, so me and a buddy of mine have been doing this project for a little while now. Slowly coming along.
It is a 14 ft v hull, not sure on the brand but I believe its a late 1960's model.
We gutted the inside, prepared and painted the outside.
Now that we have the inside gutted we are planning the decking and everything.
It is going to have a low deck all the way down the middle, about 3 or 4 inches from the bottom just to make it flat.
And also a front casting deck and a small rear deck for storage and a seat.
My question is, is there a best way to add support?
It has no support right now so its pretty flimsy so we definitely have to do something.
Any suggestions would be great.

Ok, Im uploading some pictures of our progress so far. I dont have any really recent photos of it being completely gutted but I will next time we work on it.

So this is the boat the day we brought it in the shop. 50 years of dirty lake water stains.

After hours of blood, sweat, and sanding this is what we ended up with.

Some primer.

And a LOT of paint and about 20 stencils later this is what we ended up with.

I know this doesnt have anything to do with my initial question but just thought I would share our progress so far. We hunted from it several times this past duck season and now we have gutted it out and are going to start building the decks next. I think we have pretty much figued out what we are going to do but I will still like some input from other people on how we are going to brace the sides to keep it from flexing so much. I will get some more pictures soon and let you all see the inside gutted out.. but you can imagine it for the time being. Just a 14 ft jon with nothing on the inside.

When you put your decks in, you can run braces from the top rail down to the decks on an angle and that will stiffen the sides a great deal.

It's only a dream of mine to have gotten a hull with only lake water stains. I literally scraped 8 pounds of paint off the bottom of my hull alone. :LOL2: I can see that all of the blood sweat and tears was worth it!!! Cool boat even cooler paint job. I'm still wire wheeling and scotchbriting away. Some times I don' think I'll ever get all of the paint removed but then I see a wicked cool paint job like yours and realize I must. :LOL2: Again, I can see that all of the blood sweat and tears was worth it!!! Cool boat even cooler paint job. Can't wait to see how the rest of the boat turns out!!!

That is what we plan on doing. I think it would be the simplest and best way of going about it.

Thanks a lot! We are really happy with how it turned out. The paint is holding up really well. During duck season we were plowing through 2 inch ice it dented the bow of the boat but didnt scratch the paint.. lol. But I know how you feel I have another one that is a 1955 and when we painted it it had about 10 layers of paint on it. Not fun. Best thing you can do is use Aircraft Paint Remover. Just lather the stuff on, cover it with wax paper, wait about an hour or so. When you take the paper off a lot will be stuck to it, the rest you can remove pretty easily with a paint scraper. Really strong smelling stuff so use some sort of cover for breathing and try your best not to get it on you. But it works great.

This is a little bit of a clearer shot of the paint. We got realllllly detailed with this one. Maybe a tad too much but I love the way it turned out. Kind of a mix between a duck camo and a woods camo. It took a lot of time and patience but payed off in the end.

I did the same thing with the Aircraft remover. Got most of the old paint off (8-10 layers). Right now using Scotchbrite + acetone to remove the very last bits of paint and a wire wheel too. Still got a ways to go but if I'm going to do something I'm going to do it right.
your paint job reminds me that all of the prep work will be worth it in the end. Very cool.

Oh I see. I wasnt sure if you were toughing it out without the APR. I tried that, then broke down and shelled out 50 bucks instead of spending several unnessesary hours laboring over paint that did NOT want to come off. Once you get some progress send me some pictures. I would love to see it.

Thanks everyone. I really appriciate the positive feedback. No updates as of now. Trying to get the funds in order to continue with the build. Hard to spend a lot when he's part time and Ive got a family to support. But as soon as we get moving forward I'll update.
