I finally got a boat about a year ago. I used it over the winter for duck hunting and spent the past memorial day weekend trying to get it in fishing and summer mode. I've got a lot of plans for it and just trying to figure out the best (cheapest) way to do it all. The motor is a 74 johnson 25 hp electric start and I've never seen an old motor like it, clean inside and will fire up in the dead of winter on the first push of the button. The boat doesn't leak a bit now since I have replaced the transom in it over the weekend and added a deck and some carpet. Since it is going to be a duck hunting boat I'm thinking of doing the boat actually flat black with some hunter green and tan camo stenciling. I want it to be different. The carpet is a grey color and I am just having a hard time to trying to figure out how to make everything match and what else to do with the boat. I plan on adding lights for the interior for the summer night fun and don't know what else to do. trailer needs a little work as well, the bottom of the boat catches one of the supports if the trailer isn't sitting far enough in the water. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is my first boat to own and to work on so I'm still a newb to a lot of it.

Also, if anyone knows what kind of boat this is please let me know. I was told it's a 60's model semi-v but that was it. It doesn't have a HIN so I'm pretty sure it is earlier than the 70s but I still have no clue of the make.

put down some flat black paint on the interior this weekend, got a full day on the river today and the boat did great with the new transom and deck. thinking the next thing will be putting a flat floor in the bottom of the boat and carpeting it. then later working some carpet on the sides up to the top trim. Any suggestions or pro's and con's on the flooring? Would just a fitted piece of 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch board do on top of the alum. bracing or would there need to be any extra framing? boat is kept safe away from the weather so no worries apart the wood warping from it but it's been one of the toughest things i've been trying to decide, don't like to spend money to make something just to throw it away because it was a bad idea.
Thanks

also, has anyone ever tried to make a built in cooler in the bench seat of a jon boat? I've got plenty of storage for as many people that can be in my boat in the front deck so had the idea to cut a hole in the top of the front bench for a lid and figuring some kind of insulator to put inside with walls and having a drain that will just run out onto the floor that can be drained through the actual boat drain after the day. would save a lot of room in the boat instead of having to bring a cooler on every trip, just need an idea of the best kind of materials to use and how good of an idea it would be to cut on the benches like that.

Don't see why you couldn't build a cooler. I would use the 2" ridged sheet foam from HD or lowes on the inside or outside of a wood/metal box, but you could use 1" or a couple 3/4 pieces clued together, or yo could just by a cooler and drop it in if you have the room. But to answer your question. Sure build away.
