16' Full V Restoration!!

This is my first boat and restoration project. I believe this is an old Sears Model. I got a lot of great ideas from this site and decided to get to work:

First off, Here is what I'm starting with:

Stripped Her down. Got the water hose, Degreaser, and Scuff sanding done.

Sprayed a few coats of Rustoleum Self Etching Metal Primer...Got a rough first coat of Rustoleum High Performance Almond Spray applied.

Just got done painting today. I will probably have to go over it all again with one more coat.

I'm unsure whether or not I should apply a Clear Gloss Top coat?? Any Suggestions?

My plans for the next two days are to build a deck on the front, install floors, and build new benches. I am not the biggest fan of carpet, but that's what I have planned to cover the plywood I bought with.

What are your plans for this boat? you didnt really go over what you had in mind? Are you putting a floor throughout?

^^ My plans are to build a floor out of 1/2" Plywood that I am going to treat with a sealant. These floors are going to be "drop in" so that they can be easily removed/repaired.

I am also going to build a Deck on the front half of the boat. I intend to incorporate storage areas underneath the deck to house Life Jackets, battery, and a small tool box.

Once I have everything cut to size and sealed, I'm going to install grey marine carpeting.


I had intended to polish the outside of the boat and pain some sort of "racing stripe"...but I'm not sure yet.

Looks like a nice project. I personally would avoid a gloss coat over the interior color. I like flat colors for the interior. It produces less glare and reduces eye fatigue on long days on the water. That's just my .02, though.
