Nice looking project. I am almost finished with mine. My Dad was the second owner of this 1959 14' SeaKing, which is basically a Starcraft that was rebadged and sold by Montgomery Wards. It has tons of sentimental value because I could have bought a really nice boat with the money I have sank in this one!
I have an aviation background and have been very impressed with aircraft finishes on aluminum. I bit the bullet and paid an aircraft painter to strip and paint my boat with aircraft quality materials. The paint should hold up for the next 20 years...and that is IF it is left outside - should last another 50 years by keeping it in the garage.
When I "unearthed" the old boat from my Mom's backyard, It was being used as a dumpster. The trailer axle was rusted solid and had to be replaced before I could tow it. I have since removed and replaced every bolt on the trailer and boat.
