Howdy.

I’ve got a rebuild of my 1970 Ouachita 1436 I’d say probably 95% done. Hoping to get some input and advice. Visually I think it’s great. At this point I am trying to fine tune the performance. After adding in a significant deck, my 1969 9.5 is struggling to get the boat onto a plane. Additionally I find that when I sit in the mounted seat, my weight and the motor make the stern sit really low on the water. I recently obtained a 25 hp Johnson which I plan to test out but I am worried that the heavier motor will just make it harder to get things optimized. I am thinking my end solution will be to add some kind of beaver tail float pod system to the stern. My concern with that is that the float pods may not fit this older boat very well. What are your thoughts?

I run a short shaft 25 hp Mariner that weighs 105LB on a 1971 1436 Sea King. I moved the fuel tank and battery forward to help balance out the boat. I still have to watch when coming off plane, I have to give it a little throttle so a following wave doesn't come over the transom.
