The motor sat for 10 years on the boat. The provides owner has been very honest and that things worked before shutting the boat off in 2010. The motor will need the basics rebuild or replaced. Are they brand name kits, etc that are prefered?

It is best to stick with OEM parts for best performance and fitment.. I would start with checking spark and if ok, go with a carb kit and give that a good cleaning/ rebuild. You can get aftermarket parts for pretty much anything on the motor, but 2 places not to cheap out are the carb kit and water pump.
Once you get it running decent, then worry about doing the impeller/ complete water pump assembly.. personally I wouldn't spend money on that until I knew the engine was going to run good and not need high dollar repairs.

Thanks....

There are a lot of small engines like this on Marketplace and they are unknown if they even run. Many bought on boats as projects that never even got started. I'm confident it was a previously running motor and will take a ltitle work to get it up and running. It goes into gear easily and choke and adjusts easily...I got spark from one plug , but didn't notice spark o the second, but only spending minutes on this isn't much research. This will be a good little winter project...
