Ok, making this aluminum boat into a duck boat hopefully. Roughed up the surface, primed it, and painted with several layers of rustoleum camouflage hunter green. Looks good in my opinion so far but now I am trying to replace the wood on my transom. The actual transom is aluminum and then there is an outside and inside piece of wood. Inside was 3/4 solid oak and outside was 1-1/2" solid oak. They are both rotting. Bought some 1/2" marine plywood and now I'm trying to figure out how to seal it. Any comments/questions would be appreciated!!! I did look into marine west products but is there anything that is cheaper? Will be running a 15hp on it. Also have a problem trying to use a transom mounted trolling motor, the aluminum transom is not flat everwhere by design and can't seem to figure out how to mount the trolling motor when the big motor is mounted on. Any ideas would be helpful.

1.5 inch thick on the outside sounds like someone added that later in the boats life. I would use 3/4" exterior grade plywood inside and out, not pressure wood. That should be strong enough for a 15 hp motor. I'm running 25 hp on a 1436 jon my transom is 2 layers of 1/2" plywood with a 1"x6" oak board all glued and screwed together painted with many coats of primer and exterior latex paint.
