so painted red and added the starcraft decal and boat numbers. attempted to as a protective clear coat today and ended up softening the paint so i belive if it didnt work when i check tomorrow im goin to strip the red and run the boat bare aluminum but we shall see.

Well i went and tried to strip and repaint and it was brutally hard so i decided to leave the paint. It is holding well the little areas i got stripped i reprimed and painted. I mustve not mixed the paint as well on day one bc the paint is SUPER glossy on the second go around but it still looks good and has same tint of red. May peel decals and repaint the rest so its all glossy now. Added pic of new transom also. Didnt cute the curve bc i needed the height for long shaft.

First run in the 14 starcraft. Solo was WAYY bow high def need to figure that out. With the wife managed 12mph max with here farthest seat fwd after i moved gas to the middle bench. Glass calm water very low current if any. Steady same speed up and downstream. Suggestions? 2003 merc 9.9hp 4stroke.

Well I got a 14' Mirro with a similarly shaped hull. I'm guessing that like me your best bet is to put a hydrofoil fin on the motor. I haven't done it yet, because I've now got a bigger motor for it, a 25 Johnny. Also a 9.9 might be a little bit smallish. I've pushed mine with an 18 and a 14 and I'd hate to go any smaller. The 18 gets me on plane right quick and then I can back down a bit, but I gotta keep it pretty revved to keep the bow down. I do intend to install a fin though. People seem to like this one:

I've never heard of these. Thanks for sharing !!
Do any of y'all think these things really do help the boat to plane , keep the bow down & plane quicker ??
How bout' on a 14' Lone*Star w/ an Evinrude 9.5 hp ?? I'm kinda heavy and worried about exactly this issue.
Thanks for your consideration,
Sincerely ...............

Outboard stabilizers do in fact work to help keep the bow down (Some-not q fix all), plane a bit faster and stay on plane at slower speeds, but all that depends on loads, hull design, is the boat balanced with the essentials - fuel-battery, etc); if you are looking for more speed then a bigger motor is necessary as that 9.5 isn't capable of high speed boating (LOL) it will get you there and back be more fuel efficient providing you run it with a dialed in propeller, etc. bottom line is many things affect the way a boat runs, performs, handles and there is no one item that will make it all go away, just isn't - you're going to have to settle for some things being less than what you may want but carfefuly examine exactly what your boating is and add those items to make your boating experience best it can be.

do the cav plates come from factory predrilled or not? mine has 4 holes on it that look concentric but there was no foil when i got the motor, grabbed an SE200($80) from bass pro and the holes are not aligned. so i snagged a 2 piece foil from Rural king (shoreland marine $27) and i can drill it myself to match so this will likely be the route i take but i was a bit curious.

also i am not sure of my RPM seems low and quiet to me even for a 4 stroke a tachometer is definitely in order

this seems a bit much for diameter compared to the props listed on mercury page for an 03 9.9 am i reading this correctly diameter 12 / pitch 9?
