I spaced mine at 12", but I used 5/8" ply - but you should be good at 12"

Once I had the carpet on I screwed the ply down - remember when starting your holes for the screws put the drill in reverse, 1st, and drill down into the carpet otherwise you will chew up the carpet. I also used stainless washers - came out good

Thanks, I actually placed my cardboard deck stencil over the plywood (my stencil has the floor joists drawn on it) and pre-drilled the screw holes across the entire deck. Once I carpet, I can pop the screw through the carpet and drill the recessed stainless screws in gently. I'll be sure to use that backwards drill idea though when piercing the carpet. Thanks for the reply.
