I recently bought a 87 rebel with nice accessories but found out the flooring was worse than I originally thought (probably why it was such a good deal). I have never replaced a floor and don’t know where to start. Seems like I need to tear out the carpet, tear out the bad wood, and replace with some marine grade plywood? Feel a little in over my head so any advice Is appreciated.

I did pike rebuild a few years back.... I used 5/8" marine plywood, because that was what Lund used originally.

If you are going with plywood, you can save a considerable amount of money going with exterior grade over marine grade. Both use waterproof glues. Both should be sealed. The main difference is exterior grades will have some voids in the plies while marine grade will not. That should not be an issue for your floor.
